About Us
Who We Are
The Empowerment Center is a dedicated team of professionals providing psychosocial day support to male and female adults with primary mental health diagnoses, dual diagnoses, and coexisting disorders such as substance abuse. All Mental Health Professionals are certified as Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP) and Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDP). Our primary goal is to reduce psychiatric hospitalizations and stabilize individuals within the community by offering daily routines and structure in a safe environment, helping each individual discover their best self and improve their quality of life.
The Empowerment Center is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, reaching out to many adults in need of mental health services.
Our Origins
Meet Our Founder: Journey
Journey is the visionary founder of The Empowerment Center, originally from Chester, Pennsylvania. With an extensive background in mental health services and advocacy for individuals with disabilities, Journey’s passion for empowering others drives the Center’s mission.
She holds a B.S. degree in Sociology from Norfolk State University, Norfolk, VA, and an M.S. degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University, MN. Journey’s leadership has been crucial in ensuring that both employees and members at The Empowerment Center receive the highest quality mental health care services. Her compassion and dedication to breaking mental health stigma in marginalized populations through love and acceptance have made her a visible and influential leader in the community.
