Independent Living Skills Group
The Independent living skills group strives to encourage participants to improve their independent activities of daily living. This group is designed to provide the participants with the structure, peer/staff support, self-awareness, and motivation necessary to maintain adequate life skills. Staff will assist participants with improving their judgment and decision making by increasing their independent living skills. Groups will focus on numerous areas such as maintaining appropriate personal hygiene, healthy nutrition, managing finances, housekeeping, using the phone and transportation alternatives. Staff encourages and assists participants in working toward individualized goals to help target areas of improvement in building lasting life skills over time in order to maintain recovery and stability. The Empowerment Center has incorporated personal grooming into the curriculum alongside the social skills groups. The Empowerment Center has provided its participants with the ambiance of a real salon, barber shop. This encourages personal grooming and healthy social skills.
